The Expert System is a concept piece for the Franco-American company AXA /Rosenberg. a short film that is in essence a moving mural for their san francisco corporate offices, this piece needed to metaphorically illustrate who and what they are as a financial planning institution.
Our story is of a man using simple tools while working in a tranquil rock garden. he represents AXA / Rosenberg’s computational mechanism, which can manage multiple data feeds to eventually provide a simplified product for their clients.
Around him is the outside world (who live in technology). As they hand him rocks and trees for him to manipulate they’re intently interested in his end product. as the pace quickens his tranquil world becomes more kinetic. After a while he needs to adapt with super-human abilities to shift the rocks, trees and sand around him.
In the end a new rock garden is left for the outside world to appreciate. And our hero has returned to his peaceful surroundings and the simplicity of a wooden rake along the sand. But as we leave a new group of people arrive and the cycle begins again.
Perhaps the most satisfying part of this project was that I conceived the content, executed the artwork and then did the post-production myself. and due to severe time restraints (i was brought onto the project late), inception to final product was achieved within 48 hours.
